Grade 3 Khmer Teacher

Hi everyone, my name is Sovannary (she/her). I am a 3rd grade Khmer teacher. I have two daughters who are graduates of East West, my oldest one was a part of class of 2021, and my youngest recently graduated a part of class of 2022. During my free time I enjoy talking with friends, spending time with family, and studying about different world cultures/history. Other than that, I’m looking forward to this year’s school year.

Grade 2 Khmer Teacher

Hi, my name is Makara. I’m a Grade 2 Khmer teacher. I started at East-West in 2009. I have focused only on young learners. In my free time I like walking, kickboxing and traveling around Cambodia. By the way, I am married and enjoy working here.

Kindergarten Khmer Teacher

Hi everyone, my name’s Sokheang. I am the Khmer Kindergarten teacher and I have been working at East-West since 2019.

School Librarian

Hi, I’m a school librarian and I’m Cambodian. I’ve worked at  EWIS since 2008.

Grade 3 Teacher

I am Konkea and I’m a Grade 3 khmer teacher. I have been working at East-West for a long time, first as a special needs assistant, then as a Grade 1 and now Grade 3 Khmer teacher. I love working with all of the great teachers here. I graduated with a degree in Mathematics for secondary khmer students three years ago. My wife works at East-West and my children go to school here.

Secondary Social Studies and School Media

Hi, my name is Felix. This is my first year at East-West and I’ll be teaching History and Social sciences. I’m French-American but grew up in Brussels most of my life. I’m somewhat of a “3rd culture kid” who speaks many languages and still doesn’t know where home is.

I just moved here from Hangzhou, China, where I worked for almost 7 years, and taught a variety of subjects to different age groups. I am very happy about my move to Phnom Penh, and I’m very excited to join the East-West team. I have a masters’ degree in education, an MBA, and also a degree in Jazz piano from the Brussel’s Music conservatory. In my free time I play music, learn languages, and travel when possible.

MS/HS Art

Hello, I’m VJ from the Philippines. I’ve been teaching at East-West as an elementary art teacher since 2006 and am currently a full-time secondary school art teacher. I previously worked as a part-time librarian for all the EWIS libraries  (elementary, secondary, and teacher resource) and taught nursery and preschool for a short period before going full time as a middle school and high school art teacher. Presently, I am completing my MA in Transformative Spirituality at the Asian School of Development and Cross-cultural Studies (ASDECS).

Secondary Geography Teacher

Hi, I’m Travis.  Originally from Toronto, Canada, this is the start of my third academic year as the high school geography teacher at EWIS. Prior to moving to Cambodia in March 2020 (great timing), I lived in China teaching in EAL classrooms for the better part of 8 years. I’ve recently completed a PGCE from the University of Warwick, specializing in the secondary phase, and plan to pursue the remaining year towards my full Masters of Professional Education in the near future. I’m a huge advocate for the subject of geography (and social studies in general) as a powerful tool for shaping the learners that will be tasked with solving some of our species’ greatest near-future challenges. Like many teachers at EWIS, my door is always open for a good chat (room S.48).  Welcome to all the new faces, and I look forward to getting to know you!

Grade 2 Teacher

My name is Lana. I’m a Grade 2 teacher.

I`m originally from Russia but I`ve been in Cambodia for 16 years and call it home. This academic year is my 9th year at East-West. After graduation from Pedagogical University where I earned my Masters and was qualified as a teacher of English I moved to Cambodia with my family. I have 3 children, 2 of them are EWIS students.

I’m particularly interested in helping young students to form a strong educational foundation and happy to bring my experience, skills, knowledge and passion for teaching to such an amazing school as East-West.

Vocal Teacher

My Name is Solieta Bargo, but you can call me Sol. I am from the Philippines. My passion is music. I have been a piano mozart teacher and a vocal coach since 2011.

I am also the lead singer of a band for 19 years. I sing different genres, I love singing, dancing, and I love cooking as well. I enjoy swimming so much even though I don’t know how to swim 🙂 I love dogs and cats.
