Grade 2 Khmer Teacher

Hi, my name is Makara. I’m a Grade 2 Khmer teacher. I started at East-West in 2009. I have focused only on young learners. In my free time I like walking, kickboxing and traveling around Cambodia. By the way, I am married and enjoy working here.

Kindergarten Khmer Teacher

Hi everyone, my name’s Sokheang. I am the Khmer Kindergarten teacher and I have been working at East-West since 2019.

Grade 3 Teacher

I am Konkea and I’m a Grade 3 khmer teacher. I have been working at East-West for a long time, first as a special needs assistant, then as a Grade 1 and now Grade 3 Khmer teacher. I love working with all of the great teachers here. I graduated with a degree in Mathematics for secondary khmer students three years ago. My wife works at East-West and my children go to school here.

Grade 2 Teacher

My name is Lana. I’m a Grade 2 teacher.

I`m originally from Russia but I`ve been in Cambodia for 16 years and call it home. This academic year is my 9th year at East-West. After graduation from Pedagogical University where I earned my Masters and was qualified as a teacher of English I moved to Cambodia with my family. I have 3 children, 2 of them are EWIS students.

I’m particularly interested in helping young students to form a strong educational foundation and happy to bring my experience, skills, knowledge and passion for teaching to such an amazing school as East-West.

EAL Specialist and Primary Art

Hi! I’m Misato and I am originally from Nara, Japan. I will be the EAL Specialist/Primary Art Teacher.

Prior to East-West, I was working at an IB international school in Japan for 7 years.

I went to an IB international school in Malaysia. I then moved to Adelaide, Australia and graduated from University of South Australia with a Bachelor of Education.

I enjoy teaching and watching kids grow. Getting to know each student as a person to build a positive relationship is something I always try to do.

Kindergarten Teacher

I teach the youngest students at East-West, in the Kindergarten class. If you’re ever having a bad day, come and visit us, I’m sure the little ones will cheer you up! I am from the Garden of England (Kent) and after teaching in China moved to Phnom Penh. I have been in Cambodia since the start of the pandemic and at East-West since March this year. It’s been a bit disjointed, so I’m looking forward to a smooth, normal year finally (fingers crossed). I’m also very excited to be going back to school this year to study online PGCert of Education with the University of Essex. Outside of work I have many interests, including rock climbing, gardening, handicrafts, traveling the country and my very lovely and fluffy cat.

Elementary Music and MS Art

Hello, I am Ju Eun from South Korea. My family has been in Cambodia since 2009. In 2016, I graduated from EWIS and started working as a special needs assistant. After time, I am blessed to teach Music to young learners (Preschool to Grade 4) and MS Art. I like to listen to music, sing, read, and spend time with my parents and friends. Looking forward to another great school year!

Grade 5 Teacher

My name is John, and I am working as a Grade 5 teacher at East-West this school year. I am a qualified primary teacher and teacher of English as a second language. After having worked at primary and secondary schools in the Netherlands, I wanted to expand my professional adventure abroad. I worked in Santiago de Chile and in Mexico City at an international school. I truly enjoy meeting people from different countries, cultures, and customs. This will be my 23rd year working as a teacher.

Grade 3 Teacher

I am originally from Colorado in the US. We have been living abroad seven years and we have been in The Kingdom of Wonder and at EWIS for two years. My husband Elias is your trusty IT guy and our son, Adrian, is entering middle school this year.

I have a BS in elementary education and this will be my 8th year teaching. My biggest passion in the classroom is reading. I love grade three because you can really ignite their love of reading as they transition from learning to read to reading to learn (and for fun).

Grade 5 Teacher

Hi there! I am Heather and I teach Grade 5! I have been in Cambodia since 2017 and at East-West since 2018.

I absolutely love teaching at East-West and you’ll most likely see me around campus with at least one student, current or former, hugging me. Lol!
