Grade 3 Teacher

I am originally from Colorado in the US. We have been living abroad seven years and we have been in The Kingdom of Wonder and at EWIS for two years. My husband Elias is your trusty IT guy and our son, Adrian, is entering middle school this year.

I have a BS in elementary education and this will be my 8th year teaching. My biggest passion in the classroom is reading. I love grade three because you can really ignite their love of reading as they transition from learning to read to reading to learn (and for fun).

MS Social Studies HS Global Perspectives

I originally moved to Cambodia as a US Peace Corps English Teacher & Teaching Trainer (ETTT) Volunteer in October 2018. I spent two years in Pursat Province working at Hun Sen Rumlech High School where I co-taught grades 6-12 English with a Khmer Counterpart. Together we worked to improve the English Curriculum, assess community needs and implement community projects designed around the ideas of bottom-up community development. While there, I studied the Khmer language and am proficient in speaking, reading and listening. I am still struggling to learn how to write…

When asked to evacuate the country due to Covid-19 in March 2020, I was given the opportunity to work as a MS English Teacher at EWIS and the rest is history. A warm welcome was followed by continuous support throughout the past two years including my shift from MS English to MS Social Studies. Last year I was blessed with an opportunity to coach the MS and HS Girls Football Teams and look forward to the upcoming seasons. Working with the girls was the most rewarding part of my job last year!

Head of School

Tim is currently the Head of the Secondary School and High School Principal at East-West, positions he has held for four years and which he will maintain for this upcoming school year as well.

Over the last decade, Tim developed from scratch with the students, the school’s Model UN program, organized field trips for his classes throughout Southeast Asia, and created the school’s House Games competition. On the administration side, he is responsible for the creation of the timetable in the secondary school, the writing of the school’s yearly WASC report, the maintenance of the school’s Teacher Ease database, and overseeing student discipline.

Quote from Tim:

Tim is originally from New York, USA, but has lived in Cambodia and has been at East-West for 10 years. He is an experienced and qualified educator and has taught a variety of subjects mainly in the High School. Tim has a Masters in Educational Leadership from the University of Texas and a Masters of International Relations from the City College of New York. He earned a Certificate in School Management and Leadership from Harvard University, and his Postgraduate Certificate in Education is from Leeds Beckett University. His Bachelor’s degree in history is from St. Joseph’s University.

“I am a servant leader. If a school is organized as a hierarchy, I consider myself in my role on the very bottom, working to support teachers to do their jobs, to support our students achieve academic success, and to move the school forward towards its vision. Secondary teachers have known over the last four years that my door is literally always open, and my hope is that all staff members will feel comfortable coming to me for any type of issue. I want to foster a culture of responsible freedom and focus, which nurtures us as professionals, learners, and human beings. We do not make haphazard decisions out of personal benefit or self-interests. Everything we do, we do for our kids.”

We look forward to the year ahead. “Leaders are present to serve and will be available to help and support teachers and students”. Together we will “ensure East-West’s ongoing progress of living the school’s vision and goals.”

Grade 5 Teacher

Hi there! I am Heather and I teach Grade 5! I have been in Cambodia since 2017 and at East-West since 2018.

I absolutely love teaching at East-West and you’ll most likely see me around campus with at least one student, current or former, hugging me. Lol!

MS Maths Teacher

I have been in Cambodia for 7 years now after a further 7 teaching back in the UK. I’m really excited about joining the team at EWIS – where my daughter, Chona, will also begin in Grade 3 this year.

I have a bachelor’s degree in Philosophy and Sociology and a PGCE out of the University of Brighton. Experience in managerial roles in previous schools have required me to reflect on different educational approaches further. I am a keen advocate of project-based learning and Pie Corbett’s storytelling program to teach writing, which I have found to be extremely effective, especially in the context of the ELL classroom.

Outside of the classroom I am into a range of sports, including football and tennis. I also play music often and am very much looking forward to becoming a part of Jake and Eugenio’s super cool school band.

It’s been a great break for myself and my family, plenty of adventures had, but now I am excited to get back into the classroom, and meet new colleagues and students.

Learning Support Coordinator

Hi, I am Fleur (she, her) and I am one of the Dutchies here at school, which maybe you can tell by my height 🙂
I have been in Cambodia since 2017 (with a break of 6 months last year) and I started working at East-West last December for the student support team.

I have a Bachelor’s degree in education and a Master’s degree SEN, specialist in behavior. My background is in working with students with special needs for more than 10 years back in Holland.

What else about me? Well, I love to read books, have nice dinners with my friends, go for hikes, things like that. I also used to play basketball, but at the moment I am not on any team. I recently signed up for Kun Khmer boxing, which is pretty hard, but I like to do it.

I am looking forward to the new school year, to be part of the East-West community from the start of the year and to find out how we can help the students that need extra support.

See you all soon!

PE Teacher

Hi everyone, my name is Eugenio. I’m Italian and at school we have all sorts of ways of pronouncing my name… I’d go with You-GEN-ee-oh, to meet you halfway!

This is my fourth year as a PE teacher and basketball coach at EWIS. I have a Bachelor’s Degree in Sports Science and I’m starting now a Master’s Degree in Sciences and Techniques of Preventive and Adapted Physical Activities. You’ll find me around school by our Thunderdome, the weight room or the swimming pool.

I recently started getting into music. If you hear any out-of-tune strumming or out-of-rhythm drumming coming from the music department there’s a very good chance it’s me in there. Feel free to come to say hi and complain about it!

Secondary Teacher Business and Mathematics

Hi everyone!

I’m Eric, I am Dutch and I have been teaching mainly Business and Maths in my 3 years so far at EWIS. I live with my wife and two kids (aged 6 and 9) and I enjoy running, cycling and sports activity in general. Listening to music and joining cultural activities is something I enjoy as well.

Looking forward to making it another great year!
