Secondary English and Social Studies, MS Coordinator

Hey everyone, my name is Padric Matter. I am from the best state in the United States, Oregon. Both my parents are international educators, and I grew up overseas attending international schools in Guam, Mexico, and Poland. I graduated from the American School of Warsaw with a full IB Diploma. I have a Bachelor of Arts from Portland State University in History. When I graduated, I decided to follow in my parents’ footsteps and become an international educator. It was a great way to grow up and my parents lived really good lives!

I started my career in the Portland Public School System providing after school Geography lessons and coaching soccer for underprivileged youth. I then started applying at international schools seeing if any of them would be interested and the second school I applied to offered me a position in Kyrgyzstan. I spent two years in the incredible country of Kyrgyzstan surrounded by mountains, glacial lakes, and friendly people. I then moved to Monterrey, Mexico to teach at an IB school. After that, I went to Khartoum, Sudan to fulfill a lifelong desire to live in an African country. Unfortunately, due to a revolution in Sudan I was forced to leave only after a year but fortunately, my previous school in Kyrgyzstan reached out to me and offered me the role of Middle School Coordinator. The pandemic cut my time short in Kyrgyzstan and I took a year off to travel the United States and work in a small business with their media and marketing strategies. East-West offered me the opportunity to return to education and I could not be happier. Looking forward to teaching, coaching, and having an amazing school year!

Secondary Math Teacher

Hi, I am Monica and I come from Madrid, Spain. I first came to Cambodia during the summers from 2009 to  2015 to volunteer for the local NGO Pour un Sourire d’enfant. In 2015, my husband and I quit our job in London and settled down in Cambodia.

For the past 13 years, I have worked in the financial services industry which I never really enjoyed and from 2020 I have two Master’s degrees in education to transition to this sector I am passionate about. Last year, I started this new journey teaching at East-West.

In my free time, I like spending time with my two kids and my husband, traveling, cooking, eating and doing sports.

Secondary Maths Teacher

Hi my name is Matthew. I’ve been living in Cambodia for 9 years and am about to start my 6th year at East-West. I have one son who is starting kindergarten this year.

MS Social Studies HS Global Perspectives

I originally moved to Cambodia as a US Peace Corps English Teacher & Teaching Trainer (ETTT) Volunteer in October 2018. I spent two years in Pursat Province working at Hun Sen Rumlech High School where I co-taught grades 6-12 English with a Khmer Counterpart. Together we worked to improve the English Curriculum, assess community needs and implement community projects designed around the ideas of bottom-up community development. While there, I studied the Khmer language and am proficient in speaking, reading and listening. I am still struggling to learn how to write…

When asked to evacuate the country due to Covid-19 in March 2020, I was given the opportunity to work as a MS English Teacher at EWIS and the rest is history. A warm welcome was followed by continuous support throughout the past two years including my shift from MS English to MS Social Studies. Last year I was blessed with an opportunity to coach the MS and HS Girls Football Teams and look forward to the upcoming seasons. Working with the girls was the most rewarding part of my job last year!

MS Maths Teacher

I have been in Cambodia for 7 years now after a further 7 teaching back in the UK. I’m really excited about joining the team at EWIS – where my daughter, Chona, will also begin in Grade 3 this year.

I have a bachelor’s degree in Philosophy and Sociology and a PGCE out of the University of Brighton. Experience in managerial roles in previous schools have required me to reflect on different educational approaches further. I am a keen advocate of project-based learning and Pie Corbett’s storytelling program to teach writing, which I have found to be extremely effective, especially in the context of the ELL classroom.

Outside of the classroom I am into a range of sports, including football and tennis. I also play music often and am very much looking forward to becoming a part of Jake and Eugenio’s super cool school band.

It’s been a great break for myself and my family, plenty of adventures had, but now I am excited to get back into the classroom, and meet new colleagues and students.

Secondary Teacher Business and Mathematics

Hi everyone!

I’m Eric, I am Dutch and I have been teaching mainly Business and Maths in my 3 years so far at EWIS. I live with my wife and two kids (aged 6 and 9) and I enjoy running, cycling and sports activity in general. Listening to music and joining cultural activities is something I enjoy as well.

Looking forward to making it another great year!

Secondary English Teacher

Hi everyone, my name is Dave. I am originally from the Philippines, but I moved a lot growing up. I have a bachelor’s degree in human services and fine arts. I also have my teaching certification (PGCE & CELTA).

I have lived in Cambodia for 10 years. I spent my first few years working at an NGO. I was assisting small business owners in writing their business plans. I enjoyed seeing learners reach their potential. This led me to become an English teacher. I have been teaching English for about 7 years. This is my second year at EWIS and I will be teaching grades 7, 9, & 10 English.
